The mission of the Korey Stringer Institute is to provide research, education, advocacy and consultation to maximize performance, optimize safety and prevent sudden death for the athlete, warfighter and laborer.

FINDINGS:

  • The ThermoPact MouthShield can aid in recognizing if an athlete’s oral temperature is above 39 degrees Celcius (102.2 degrees F)

 

  • The ThermoPact MouthShield has a 100% sensitivity rate for when body temperature is in a safe range (under 102F) - meaning it won’t provide a false positive. 

 

  • The ThermoPact MouthShield had the best performance when evaluated in comparison to GI temperature which is a gold standard measurement for body temperature assessment.

 

  • The ThermoPact MouthShield should be used as a warning sign that body temperature may or may not be hyperthermic.

 

  • No change in the ThermoPact MouthShield color doesn’t mean a person isn’t hot, so if someone is struggling, caution should be taken and medical advice sought as needed.

 

  • Oral temperatures should be confirmed using a proper FDA-approved medical device. If there is a concern for elevated internal body temperatures, the MouthShield is not an approved medical device.
